We chose an AI voiceover for the video, in a style that leans towards the BBC documentary style. AI can help us present video content in a more standard English accent. The style is smooth and full of emotion, but sounds too ‘aristocratic’. There is a multi-ethnic workforce in the NHS and accents that lean towards the BBC documentary style should not be representative of all nursing staff. The impact of accents on people’s perceptions of the UK nursing sector still needs to be considered. There has been a struggle within the NHS to address the issue of racial inequality and any form of inequality is incompatible with the values of the NHS (NHS England, 2024). However, there are still overseas-trained medical professionals working in the UK who experience ‘persistent and harmful’ inequalities throughout their careers (Campbell, 2024), suggesting that there is a long way to go to address racial inequalities in the NHS.
